One of the best parts about Christmas is being united with loved ones that we haven’t seen for a long time. Sadly, many members of the United States military and their families are forced to be separated over Christmas, which often leaves them devastated.

The war in Afghanistan has been ongoing for 18 years, so it’s a very special occasions when the soldiers who serve there get to return home for Christmas.

Specialist Ethan Harris had been deployed in Afghanistan as part of the renowned 101st Airborne Division, also known as the “Screaming Eagles.” When he got the opportunity to return home for Christmas, he decided to team up with his father to give his mother a surprise that she will never forget!

After enlisting the help of his mother’s coworkers at the school she works at, Ethan showed up there wearing a Santa suit.

The soldier’s mother Kim Harris is a math teacher at Prairie Heights High School, and while she is dedicated to her students, she desperately missed her son. On the Friday before the Christmas break, staffers at the school gathered for a holiday breakfast. It’s a tradition that they always have someone dressed as Santa Claus as well as a lottery. This year, the lottery was rigged, and Superintendent Alan Middleton called Kim’s name.

After she was told that she had won a poinsettia, Kim sat on Santa’s lap and laughed. Using a very deep voice, Santa asked Kim what she wanted for Christmas, to which she replied, “Peace on Earth and goodwill towards men.”
When Santa asked her what else she wanted, Kim explained that she already had the best Christmas gift, saying, “My son is safely on U.S. soil.” Santa then asked where her son was, to which Kim replied, “Fort Campbell.”

“Are you sure?” Santa asked before he pulled down his beard and revealed who he really was.

You have to see for yourself how Kim reacted when she realized Santa was actually her son! Check it out in the video below!
