The image of the ideal man has changed throughout history. In the Middle Ages, being “chubby” was a sign of wealth, which made “heavy” people popular back then.
Nowadays, the ideal man looks more like a painting. A lean, muscular frame with pronounced abs is what you need. But is it really true that women find super-trained men with a sixpack so attractive?
Now there is research that says otherwise – women prefer a man with a beer gut, according to the site Viralthread.
Today, there is a lot of focus on being fit in newspapers and on TV. Almost everything is about how we should be as lean and as fit as possible. There are diets, training regimes and lots of guides on how to become “good looking.”
Seven out of ten prefer a beer belly
But what do women really think about men who are fit?
The international fitness company Planet Fitness, conducted a study where 2,000 women and men answered what type of body they find themselves most attracted to.
The result showed that 70 percent of women preferred men with a beer belly – or rather with an overweight of up to ten kilos.
There is a biological explanation
According to Richard Bribiescas, a professor at Yale, there is a biological explanation for why women are more attracted to men who prefer to stay at home on the couch rather than going to the gym.
Men with a bit of extra stomach have lower testosterone levels, which provide a better immune system and as a result a longer life.
“This change in body composition not only causes men to shop for more comfortable trousers but also facilitates increased survivorship and, hypothetically, a hormonal milieu that would more effectively promote and support paternal investment,” says Richard Bribiescas to Viralthread.
So basically, tubby men make better dads.
Don’t eat in excess
With that said, you shouldn’t eat in excess. Consuming a lot of fat increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and many other health issues.
However, this means that you can indulge in a beer and a pizza over the weekend; without having to feel forced to go to the gym to burn those calories.
However, you should exercise regularly even if you want to keep that good looking “one pack”.
